Happy Thanksgiving!
turducken
Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, I decided to do a post themed around the holiday. When most people think about tomorrow, the first thing they start imagining is the dinner table and all of the food they are about to eat. They see the turkey, the other meets, the potatoes, the corn, the yams, the deserts, and so much more. It is a feast they look forward to every year! Last year when we were sitting down at the table to eat, a conversation sparked up about a Turkey that some people eat on Thanksgiving called a Turducken. If the name does not give it away, it is a chicken stuffed inside a duck that is stuffed inside a turkey. About half of the table did not believe there was a such a thing, so I got out my computer and showed Turducken to everyone! We are fussy eaters, so this is not something we would eat...but it might be something you would enjoy!

Another big thing about this holiday is the day after. Black Friday is an insane shopping day, and many people start their holiday shopping on this day because of the great deals. Unless something really catches my eye, I usually try to stay at home and away from all the "crazy-ness". If would like to get a sneak peak at what is going to be offered at the local stores, check out the Slick Deals forum!

Have a great Thanksgiving with your friends and family, enjoy your shopping, and make sure to stop by next week for more posts! Oh, if you buy anything on Black Friday or you end up having Turducken for Thanksgiving, please leave a comment telling how it all went!

SPCA.com
spca
One week ago today, my family went to the SPCA to get 2 new kittens for our home. Earlier in the week our 17 year old cat passed away, and the house just was not the same without multiple cats running all over the place. The 2 new guys that we got are totally crazy, making them a riot to sit and watch. They are 10 week old brothers. Their names -- Brewster and Bailey.

Our local SPCA was flooded with animals to be adopted, so I decided to push the SPCA's website to help other people adopt pets in their area. Not only is the SPCA website helpful for people interested in getting a pet, but it is great for people already with pets. They have sections on the site to discuss pet care, wellness, and stories from around the world of people and there pets. If you are a pet lover, the site has a ton of great articles to read.

Free Rice!
free rice
I was sent a link to today's website by Eric Willis and at first had no clue what was going on. Once I figured it out, I fell in love with the idea. By getting the correct word association on the page, 10 grains of rice is donated to an international aid agency for hungry people! The site not only is helping to feed people around the world, but they are also helping improve your vocabulary.

So, how can this website afford this? At the bottom of each page, paid advertising is shown. With the money they make off of the advertising, they are able to pay for the rice.

I played until I got to 200 grains of rice, and plan on playing every morning to help out with this great cause....are you going to play?

Blog Action Day
Today, October 15, is known as Blog Action Day. It is a day that blogs around the world talk about making the world a Greener place. Bloggers are supposed to talk about Green Earth in any way they want to, so I have decided to help promote the day in my today's post.

I know we have days throughout the year (like Earth Day) to help the world recognize to "save a tree" or to recycle, but why should there be days like this when it should be happening every day of the year? It seems that every year, more "green" days are popping up on the calendar, and that is excellent. Hopefully there will be a day in the future when we all take care of our planet and these types of days will no longer be needed!

One thing that I noticed on the web this weekend were people all over the world signing up to help clean up parks, beaches, trails, etc through Google Maps - International Cleanup Weekend. Google created a map on their site where you could select an area and have people meet up for a clean up! The site was intended for this past weekend, but it looks like you can still use it for more meet ups.

Asking people to do the extreme and change their lifestyle to make the world perfectly green is not possible, but asking them to change a few things here and there, a little at a time, is a great start!

Lake Ontario United
LOU
It is about that time of year when people start swarming any body of water they can find to do a little bit of fishing. Around here, the biggest bodies of water (Lake Erie and Lake Ontario) have some of the greatest fishing you could imagine. I have fished pan fish, bass, walleye, trout, and even King Salmon on the lakes. It is always a great time! If you are into fishing, you might enjoy checking out Lake Ontario United. It is a website/forum that has some of the best anglers from Lake Ontario talking about their tactics, fishing forecasts, experiences, and a ton of other topics! I have really learned a lot of things from reading the site, and I am sure you will gain some new ideas to try out next time you are fishing. The website is geared mainly towards Lake Ontario, but I have found that a lot of the things discussed can be used anywhere. Best of luck on the fishing season!
