Sing Shot — Online Karaoke
sing shot
While watching all of my daily podcasts yesterday, I heard about a website called Sing Shot. It was briefly explained as a karaoke website where you can record your own songs or listen to others. When you are recording a song, you can choose to create a video with it (basically you singing in front of a camera), create a slideshow, or just let the lyrics show up for the listeners to watch. I did not record a song (nor will I), but I really got hooked into listening to others. My favorite singer so far is MusicisLife. She has sung over 50 songs, and I feel that a lot of them sound as good if not better than the original artist. There are a lot of people on the website that have a great voice, but you will have to look around and weed out the "not-so-good" singers. When you are searching for songs, I suggest looking at the listing for the Most Popular and the Most Played Recordings. To me, most of these seem to be the better singers on the site. Have fun, and do not waste too much of your day on the site! ;-)

Cat Power - Lived in Bars
Cat Power
Recently I have been addicted to music by Cat Power (real name: Chan Marshall). I found out about her from a song she sang in a "A Diamond Is Forever" commercial. I immediately fell in love with her voice and had to find more music from her.

The first song I found was called "Lived in Bars" off of her newest CD, The Greatest. Reading the reviews and comments about the song, the song is about her recovering from alcoholism. The song is a slow beat with a quiet instrumental. It is the perfect song for me to have found, since I am so interested in her voice....without the heavy instrumentals, I can really key into her vocals. The instrumentals that you do hear throughout the song are very jazz-like. They are just the right amount/mixture for the song. One of my favorite parts of the song is when they bring up the tempo a little in the middle of the song for the chorus. The transition is great for the song, and I think gives you a push to want to hear more from her. Without a doubt, I will be purchasing her new CD...give her a try and see what you think!

Mike Relm
mike relm
Last night I was fortunate enough to score a ticket to see the Blue Man Group. They are currently on their "How to be a Megastar Tour 2.0", and they were at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY last night. Yes, the concert was amazing, and the Blue Man group is well worth the cost to see them live, but I want to spend a little time writing about their opening act.

The opening act last night was an artist named Mike Relm. He classifies himself as a DVD-J. I have listened to a lot of great DJs, and love hearing them scratch, but this was out of this world. He did everything that DJs normally do, but he added another element...video! He actually took very popular video clips and played music and scratched to the video. I think the crowds favorite part last night was when he took the O face scene from Office Space and remixed it. I highly highly highly suggest taking a little time and viewing the work he has done. I know I am will be looking feverishly to see him live again!

The 2006 PGA Grand Slam of Golf
golf
I know the season is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you cannot keep practicing! Like I have said before, I am not a good golfer, but I think that the winter is a great time to go to the range and practice on your swing. If you would like something to help, Apple iTunes is offering a free instructional video right now for free. This video goes over golf strategies, tough shots, and around the green with America's director of instruction Rick Marino, 2005 PGA teacher of the year Peter Krause, and PGA professional Michael Reed. They are giving this away right now to help promote their episodes they are selling for the 2006 PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Make sure to pick up this free instructional video before they take it off of iTunes!

Michael Buble - Save the Last Dance for Me
michael buble
When I don't have a specific song selected for the day, I usually head over to Apple iTunes and see who they are promoting. Today, I clicked on the link for Michael Buble. When I started listening to his music, I was pleasantly surprised at what I heard. It is not very often that you hear music like this. The only way I can describe it is by saying that it reminds me of dining music you might hear in Las Vegas. Could this be the future Wayne Newton? For one thing, his voice is good enough! The song that I liked the best was "Save the Last Dance for Me". The instrumentals were very light, and included everything from strings, brass, and percussion. The beat had a really nice latin beat. Michael's vocals were as clear as possible, and very easy to listen to. You could hear his fun, yet charismatic personality in the music. Michael Buble's music is not something you should expect to hear on any local radio channels, so make sure you take a moment and listen to today's song of the day!
