Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's
Yesterday while driving home, I heard "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's on the radio. It is not the first time that I have heard this song, but it is the first time it got stuck in my head. Between today's song and the Cosby Show theme song, my head is driving me nuts!
I really like the minimalism in "Hey There Delilah". With them not over-powering the instrumentals in the song, there were able to keep it basic, and yet the song is very powerful to listen to. I have heard many people say that it is hard to keep back the tears because of the beauty of the song. I can totally see what they are saying! If the song does not win any awards this year, I will be surprised. Does anyone own the album by the Plain White T's? I am curious to hear other songs and to see if they are even close to today's song of the day!

Cat Power - Lived in Bars
Recently I have been addicted to music by Cat Power (real name: Chan Marshall). I found out about her from a song she sang in a "A Diamond Is Forever" commercial. I immediately fell in love with her voice and had to find more music from her.
The first song I found was called "Lived in Bars" off of her newest CD,
The Greatest. Reading the reviews and comments about the song, the song is about her recovering from alcoholism. The song is a slow beat with a quiet instrumental. It is the perfect song for me to have found, since I am so interested in her voice....without the heavy instrumentals, I can really key into her vocals. The instrumentals that you do hear throughout the song are very jazz-like. They are just the right amount/mixture for the song. One of my favorite parts of the song is when they bring up the tempo a little in the middle of the song for the chorus. The transition is great for the song, and I think gives you a push to want to hear more from her. Without a doubt, I will be purchasing her new CD...give her a try and see what you think!

John Mayer - Why Georgia

I was trying to get today declared as a National Holiday, but the US wouldn't allow it. I turn 25 today, and am doing nothing but having fun. I have been telling everyone that today is the start of my "Quarter Life Crisis", so that will be my excuse this year if I do anything wrong! The song that I chose for today's post is "Why Georgia" by John Mayer. The main reason why I picked this song is because this is where I first heard about the quarter life crisis idea. I heard it a few years back, and just knew that this was going to be my motto for my 25th year! "Why Georgia" is also a very popular song my Mayer, so I am sure that most of you have heard it already. If this is the first time hearing about this song, I highly suggest downloading it and giving it a try. It is one original songs by John that got me hooked! I have always like his vocals, and the instrumentals are very soft and modest throughout the song. The style of the song makes it very easy to listen and really get into the lyrics of the song. Like I said above, this really is a great song to listen to. I hope you give it a try...even if you only listen to the sample that Apple iTunes gives!

Jeannie Ortega - Crowded
Is Apple iTunes introducing us to the next Jennifer Lopez with their selection of the free single of the week? This week, Apple chose "Crowded" by Jeannie Ortega (featuring Papoose). The beat is very interesting to listen to. It introduces a lot of unique instruments that you are not used to hearing in Pop/hip hop music. The bass used in the song is very heavy, and really helps to emphasize the beat. In my opinion, it feels like the vocals are taking a back seat in this song. Jeannie sounds like she has a good voice, but it is a little hidden from the beat of the song. Apple mentioned that they expect this song to be a new dance club hit, so that might be why the instrumentals are so prominent. Papoose has a rap voice that I am interested in hearing more of. He reminds me a little of Jay-Z. I will have to look for more music by him. What are your opinions/impressions about the song?

Kings of Convenience - I Don’t Know What I Can Save You From
Article written by:
Eric Willis"I Don't Know What I Can Save You From" by Kings of Convenience from the album "Quiet Is the New Loud" is an excellent song. The Kings have a great collection of music consisting of delicate tunes, calming voices and intricately subtle guitar melodies. The duo Erlend Oye and Eirik Galmbek Boe are from Bergen, Norway. A lot of their music is available on iTunes and Yahoo! Music. I personally enjoy the acoustic versions of their songs and they tend to get stuck in my head. They are a great duo and come highly recommended from both
myself and
Nicole.
