Cold War Kids - Hang Me Up to Dry
It is a few days late, but how about a post about this week's free single by Apple. The description they have in iTunes is really good, so I am just going to show it for the description of the song.
We've tried to keep them our own little secret as long as we could, but it's getting too hard. We've just got to sharge. The Cold War Kids' album, Robbers & Cowards, was one of our favorite releases of the year. "Hang Me Up to Dry" is now our free single of the Week and so consider yourself officially "clued-in." It's a nice little mix of Modest Mouse, the Strokes, Arcade Fire, Spoon...and yet not really any of those when you break it down. But they do have this: guitars, good songs, confidence. and these are a few of our favorite things.
Make sure you download this week's single before it is gone!

Howto: Download Apple’s Free Single of the Week
A few people have been having problems finding the single of the week on Apple iTunes. I decided to write this week about how to find the song instead of writing about the free single from Apple (but make sure you go download it).
Apple makes it really simple to find the free single of the week. When you are in iTunes, click on the link for the "iTunes Store". For me, this link is on the left of iTunes. When this page loads, make sure it is on the main page of the store by clicking on the house on the top of iTunes. If the house is the only link in its vicinity, you are already on the main page. The main page had 3 columns on it (left, center, right). In the middle is where we want to be looking at. Look below the "New Releases" section. The second image in the top row is the Single of the Week. The picture changes every week, but the words "FREE DOWNLOAD" and "Single of the Week" will always be shown on the image. Click on this image, and you will be taken to the page for the free single. The top of the page will show an image for the CD the song is on, usually a description of the song, and reviews of the single. On the bottom half of the page is the song and a button that says "Get Song". As long as the price says "Free" and the button says "Get Song", click it and download the free single of the week. I have seen a few times Apple forgetting change the price/button, and I suggest waiting until they correct these before you downloading. Why possibly pay for a song when you can wait a few hours and get it for free! You will need an iTunes account to get it, but I am sure you can register for that yourself.
iTunes updates the free single of the week on every Tuesday. I have been posting about the song on Tuesdays, but I might change the date over to Wednesday. This will give me a little more time to listen to the song and get better thoughts about it. I hope this helps downloading the free single of the week by Apple!

Sufjan Stevens - That Was the Worst Christmas Ever
I was a little upset with having to write about another christmas song. After
last week's post, I said my peace, and think I explained why I am not longer a big fan of christmas music. Anyways, I went to the Apple iTunes store and downloaded this week's free single. Yes, it was a christmas song, but not one I have heard before. "This Was The Worst Christmas Ever" by Sufjan Stevens is a song about a family doing everything normal (shoveling the driveway, sledding down a hill) until their father starts throwing the gifts into the fire. The lyrics do not go into detail about why the father is doing this, just that he is. The vocals and instrumentals are really nice to listen to. I found myself closing my eyes and picturing everything that Sufjan was singing about. Even though it is a christmas song, I highly recommend you downloading it and giving it a listen.

Sarah McLachlan - Silent Night
I love this time of year. I enjoy seeing the snowfalls we get, and I love having a white christmas. I also like to see the joyfulness the season brings to most people you pass when you are hustling around for your "holiday" shopping. I usually try to take 1 or 2 days out of my busy week to just walk around the mall and try to capture the excitement of everyone around me. One thing that I am not a fan of around this time of year is the music! All you hear are christmas songs everywhere you go. It would be okay if you heard them only when shopping...or at parties, but when I get into my mother's and brother's car to take a ride they have the local radio station playing christmas music 24x7! I just noticed that Apple is doing the exact same thing with their free songs of the week. Until the holiday season is over, expect to see christmas songs for free from Apple.
This week's song is "Silent Night" by Sarah McLachlan. I expect you to know the song already, so I will not write about it...Just download it while it is still free!

The 2006 PGA Grand Slam of Golf
I know the season is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you cannot keep practicing! Like I have said before, I am not a good golfer, but I think that the winter is a great time to go to the range and practice on your swing. If you would like something to help, Apple iTunes is offering a free instructional video right now for free. This video goes over golf strategies, tough shots, and around the green with America's director of instruction Rick Marino, 2005 PGA teacher of the year Peter Krause, and PGA professional Michael Reed. They are giving this away right now to help promote their episodes they are selling for the 2006 PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Make sure to pick up this free instructional video before they take it off of iTunes!
