Week 14 - Houston Texans
houston texans
With wins, a bunch of teams won a playoff spot. Three out of the four divisions in the NFC and one team in the AFC have clinched their divisions and one team has guaranteed themselves at least a wild card spot. The team that did not win their game this week to clinch their division was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They had an extremely poor outing against the Houston Texans.

Yes, I said that Tampa lost to Houston. It was a game that I expected to be a blow out, but not with Houston on the winning end of it!

Both teams had a backup quarterback starting this week. Sage Rosenfels has proven to the league that he can play the game, and he did so again this week. He was 27/36 in passing, 209 yards and 3 TDs. He managed the game perfectly, and he did it against a tough defense. Andre Johnson was the top receiver for Houston with 9 catches for 82 yards and 1TD. The offensive stats for Tampa were similar, but their 2 offensive TDs were from runs by Earnest Graham. Graham had 61 yards rushing, 6 catches for 45 yards.

Houston was beat for penalties against, total yards, and time of possession. So, why did they win the game? When it counted, the Houston defense played solid. They were able to hold Tampa out of the end zone...something we all know is needed to win a game! The special teams also played well. Their highlight for the game was a 97-yard kick return by Andre Davis.

This week was the start of seeing who will make it to the playoffs, but the next couple weeks will determine the rest of the brackets!

Week 13 - Oakland Raiders
oakland raiders
Many teams are starting to look at their records and are trying to determine what there odds are to make the playoffs. These teams know how important it is to win out the season, and they know any mistake can cause them to start booking early vacations! Unless a miracle happens, a team that lost last night and looks to be out of the playoff race is the Denver Broncos.

Going into the game, they were at 5-6 with a lot of other teams in the AFC, but losing to the Oakland Raiders did not help. The offensive statistics were decent, but not stellar, and the defense could not stop Oakland from scoring. Josh McCown had 141 yards passing and 3 TDs. The amazing stat that I saw was that the amazing Denver secondary did not have one interception on Oakland. The other big offensive player for the Raiders was Justin Fargas. He had 146 yards rushing, 2 receptions for 18 yards, and 1 TD.

Oakland is on a 2-game winning streak, but has a very difficult schedule coming up (Green Bay, Indianapolis). It looks like their winning streak was a little too early!

Week 12 - Minnesota Vikings
vikings
I have thrown my arms into the air! Everything that I expect to happen every week does not. The amounts of upsets this year are amazing, and even games that the favorite wins are too close for comfort. I feel that this year's NFL is filled with Great teams and teams that are bad. Every week though, a couple bad teams show a spark and make you wonder...

This week's surprise for me had to have been the Minnesota Vikings beating the New York Giants by a large margin. I did not watch this game, but when I saw the score, I had to go look how the Vikings were able to score 41 points. It was even more shocking to see that only 20 points (2 TDs, 2 FGs) came from the offensive side. Eli Manning threw 4 interceptions, and had 3 of them run back for touchdowns. I have never seen a defense outscore their offense!

Neither offense deserves any praise. Their numbers were lack-luster. It was a defensive battle, but who has ever heard of a defensive battle that has 58 total points scored? The game ball this week deserves to go to the outstanding play of their defense!

Week 11 - Dallas Cowboys
We all know who the best team is in the AFC, but who is the top dog in the NFC? After yesterday's game against the tough Washington Redskins, Dallas is showing why they want to be known as the top team!

It was a tough game for Dallas, but they were able to squeeze out a victory by keeping the Redskins out of the endzone for most of the game. They only allowed 2 Touchdowns, and had to settle for 3 field goals. Tony Romo looked great on the offensive side of the ball with 293 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 Interception. The running game could not get off the ground with only 72 yards between 3 players. The big player of the day has to be TO (Terrell Owens). He had 8 catches, 173 yards, and 4 TDs. It was an amazing day for him!

So, is Dallas the best team in the NFC? It is a tough call between them and Green Bay!

Week 9 - New England Patriots
patriots
Yesterday afternoon was a game that was anticipated as the best matchup ever in NFL history. Others even called the game Super Bowl 41 1/2. The game was between the New England Patriots (8-0) and the Indianapolis Colts (7-0). The 2 combined undefeated records was the highest between opponents in history. I made sure that I tuned in for the game, and I was not disappointed.

I was amazed that the game was based on what defense was going to be able to control the other's offense. I expected that both offenses were going to be able to roll over the opponent's, and the outcome of the game was going to be from the team that did not make a mistake. For most of the game however, the Colts looked like the dominant team while New England made a few bad mistakes and really was losing because of penalties. With 2 crucial scoring drives and a key fumble recovery by the Patriots, New England was able to keep their undefeated record going.

Who gets the game ball? I really do not think one can be given out for this week. Brady had a good week with 255 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs, but the defense did a great job keeping the Colts from putting up a major amount of points in the game. It was a tough win, so maybe anyone for the Patriots that did not have a penalty on them should get the game ball this week!
