The New Empire?
In 4 games, the Boston Red Sox were able to claim their second championship in 4 years. Two of the games in the series were slug fests by Boston, and the other 2 were 1 run matches. It showed that in this series, Boston could do it all! The MVP of the World Series was Mike Lowell, the Red Sox's third baseman that had a hot bat and an amazing defensive glove. I agree he played an amazing series, but the pitching staff (in my eyes) were amazing during the series, and all deserve heavy recognition! Congrat to the Boston Red Sox for being the 2007 World Series Champions!

Week 7 - Tennessee Titans
There were some great games this week in football. A lot of games were close to the wire, and we even had some big upsets -- Buffalo and Denver. Like every other week this year, Tom Brady was amazing to watch. I have not seen another offense in my lifetime that is doing what Brady and the Patriots have done so far.
The big game for the week (in my eyes of course) has to be the Tennessee vs. Houston game. It started off as a blowout by the Titans, but backup QB Sage Rosenfels wanted a major comeback win for his name. He threw 22/35, 290 yards, 4 TDs and 3 Ints. In the last couple minutes of the game, he was able to get his team up by 1 point and looked like he had helped his team to a comeback win, but the Titans would not allow this. Kerry Collins led his team down the field with some amazing passes and got Rob Bironas into field goal range to kick the winning field goal. The titans won the game, 38-36. The most amazing part of the game...Rob Bironas breaking the record of the most field goals in 1 game. He successfully kicked 8 field goals in the game. Between the field goals and the extra points Bironas kicked, he accounted for 26 of the Titans 38 points. Congrats to Rob Bironas for getting his name in the NFL record books!

Week 5 - Pittsburgh Steelers
This weekend's football games were the most predictable yet! So far, I guessed 12 out of 13 games correct, and I have a feeling I will have tonight's correct also.
One of the games that everyone thought was a going to be a close game but the winner would be the team with the less important injuries was the Steelers vs. Seahawks match. I have been really impressed with the consistency of Pittsburgh this year, and knew there were going to be hungry for a win after their tough loss on the road. Many people felt that losing Polamalu, Hampton, and Ward were going to be too much against Seattle and that they would lose the game. I really feel that the Steelers are a well-rounded team, and losing great players will only make other teammates step up. Roethlisberger and company did just that. Ben had 206 yards passing and 1 TD. He looked solid throughout the game while passing for 18 of 22 and connecting with 7 players. Willie Parker used his speed to have another 100 yard game with 102 yards rushing. Even with the great offensive numbers the truly amazing part of the game was the Steelers Defense. They held the high scoring Seahawks to 0 points. They had 3 sacks, 1 interception, and held Seattle to only 144 yards of total offense! They really looked amazing. I feel that Pittsburgh is one of the top 4 teams in the league so far this year, and I would not be surprised to see more games like this by them throughout the year...watch out opponents!

Week 4 - Buffalo Bills
I have to start this week's football post congratulating Brett Favre. He has finally passed Dan Marino in the all time Passing Touchdowns record with 422 TDs (and still counting). Favre was not kept in the lineup just to break this record (like they did with Bonds for the all-time HR record). Brett has looked amazing on the field this year. His team is 4-0, and they are looking great for a solid year.
The week was impossible to pick winners (at least for me), but a game that I had a close eye on was the NY Jets at Buffalo game. I thought Buffalo was going to have another struggle and go 0-4, but I was wrong. They were able to hold onto a lead the offense created and win the game 17-14. Every week I feel that Marshawn Lynch is the star for the offense, but this week he had a lot of help from rookie QB, Trent Edwards. Edwards threw for 234 yards, 1 TD, and 1 Int. He spread the ball around nicely to 6 different receivers, but his main WR was Lee Evans with 6 receptions and 72 yards. Is Trent Edwards the answer? Will JP Losman lose his starting role? Lynch ran for 79 yards and 1 TD in the game. Both of the rookies deserve this game's game ball! Good job Lynch and Edwards.
Pennington looked good in the game also (290 yards passing, 1TD, 2 Int), but was not able to create a good last minute drive to get his team in field goal range for a tie. The last play of the game was an interception by Terrance McGee. The running game was terrible for the Jets. The bills defense is one of the worst in the league, and the Jets were only able to rush for 60 yards with their top runner having 35 yards. I have a feeling this will be a great game to watch when both teams meet up again later this year!

Week 3 - Philadelphia Eagles
I really cannot figure out the teams this season! Even though the numbers were not as high as last week, there were still a lot of upsets in the league. One of the biggest shockers had to be the domination by the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles (0-2) were taking on the Detroit Lions (2-0). After seeing the first couple weeks of Philly's play, there was no way I could take them to win over the hard working Lions. Everything that looked horrible the first 2 weeks for Philly was perfect in yesterday's game. Donovan McNabb threw for 381 yards, 4 TDs and his only turnover was a fumble. His main throwing weapon was Kevin Curtis with 221 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns. Brian Westbrook really came through and ran for 110 yards, 2 running TDs, 5 catches for 111 yards, and 1 receiving TD. I have always said that Westbrook and McNabb are 2 of the best players in the league...when they are healthy! The Lions problems throughout the game were the turnovers (3), and the lack of a running game (39 total yards from 4 players). Kitna was able to throw for 446 yards and 2 TDs, but had 3 turnovers (1 interception and 2 fumbles). The star player on their team this week had to be Roy Williams with 204 yards receiving with his longest play being 91 yards, and 1 touchdown. Welcome back Eagles, and we hope you stay like this throughout the season...good competition is always a lot more fun to watch!
